Yuma County encompasses approximately 5500 square miles in the southwest quadrant of Arizona – bordered by both California and Mexico.  Yuma’s location makes it the central hub for transportation in the southwest.  With access to a variety of major consumer markets, the logistics/distribution sector continues to grow and perform.  Within a day’s truck haul, companies can access over 50 million consumers in California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Mexico.  Yuma County has two  national highway systems running directly through the region. Interstate 8 providing east/west access, Highway 95 providing north/south access also designated the Western Passage of the Canamex Corridor.   Adding to the ease of moving goods through this region is the brand new 26 mile limited access SR195 Area Service Highway also known as the RAVE which begins at the new San Luis Commercial Port of Entry and connects directly to Interstate 8 and Highway 95.  This entire corridor is inclusive of Foreign Trade #219.  The advantageous position of being located on the Mexican border also makes bi-national commerce an efficient option for twin plant and Maquila operations.  Greater Yuma EDC has direct partnerships with our neighbors, forming the 4-Valleys Regional Alliance where our message is - Four States, Two Countries, One Vision.  Members include Mexicali Mexico, Imperial Valley California, San Luis Mexico and Yuma County Arizona.

Yuma County holds an enviable position regarding water rights to the Colorado River.   Much of the county is desert land accented by rugged mountains; however Yuma County is the #1 grower of produce in the nation during the months of October through March, supplying 98% of the nations winter produce.  Over 225,000 acres are planted annually in Yuma County.  Directly connected to Yuma’s Agribusiness is the Value Added Food Processing industry.  Yuma is home to the University of Arizona‘s Agriculture Research and applied sciences department, leading the nation in Crop Food Safety research as well as seed engineering for heat tolerance and harvesting applications.  Agribusiness is Yuma County’s leading Economic Driver, accounting for over $3 billion in annual revenue.    Yuma’s second highest Economic Driver is the Aerospace and Defense Industry.  Yuma is home to both Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and Yuma Proving Grounds.  The entire County supports and protects our military installations through zoning laws and by developing industrial corridors that support the military mission. 

 
Throughout the past decade Yuma County has developed and expanded their Industrial Manufacturing base.  Business Retention and Expansion efforts have created an environment for success due to training programs implemented by Yuma’s Manufacturing Association (YMA).  Partnerships with K-12 and Yuma’s Arizona Western College have created a pipeline of talent that meets and exceeds the needs of our Industries.  Labor force in Yuma County is touted to be the best in the Nation by companies such as Johnson Controls, Shaw Industries and Bose Corporation just to name a few.  Greater Yuma EDC is working with several Renewable Energy companies considering this region as home for their operations.  These companies range from Bio-Fuels to Solar Energy.    Solar Manufacturers view this region as the nucleus to the growing solar market.  Newly enacted Senate Bill 1403 provide incentives to Manufactures that guarantee low start-up costs,  this and our ideal location for distributing to the RPS target markets,  create a winning environment.  With Yuma’s available desert land and the over abundance of the #1 asset required for generation - Solar Radiation - Yuma has been selected by three major utility scale generation companies to build and generate solar power in Yuma County.
