High school district speakers featured at Know Yuma

Representatives of the Yuma Union High School District will be the featured speakers during this week’s Know Yuma: Inside and Out.

The event will be held from 7 to 8 a.m. Thursday in the council chambers at Yuma City Hall, One City Plaza. Admission is free and a continental breakfast will be served.

Speakers will be Jamie Sheldahl and Laura Campbell.

Sheldahl, associate superintendent of YUHSD, previously was the founding principal of Gila Ridge High School. His 26-year career in education has included 12 years teaching English at the junior high and senior high levels and 12 years in building administration.

He graduated in 1986 from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with a bachelor’s degree in English. He earned his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on English in 1993 from Northern Arizona University.

Campbell currently is the Ready Now Yuma director for YUHSD. Her 10-year career in education includes four years as a middle school science teacher and four years teaching high school science. Prior to assuming her current position, she served as an instructional coach for teachers new to YUHSD and taught biology and earth science at Gila Ridge High School

She received a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Arizona State University and a master’s degree in education leadership and administration in 2012 from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.

The Know Yuma series provides business people with information about the population, people, industries and visitors that contribute to the Yuma County economy. The meetings, held the third Thursday of each month, are hosted by the Yuma Sun in partnership with Greater Yuma Economic Development Corp., Yuma Visitors Bureau, Yuma County Chamber of Commerce and city of Yuma.
