Yuma County isn't just keeping residents informed, it's doing it digitally - and one national survey ranks it sixth in the nation for counties with a population of 150,000 to 249,999. The Center for Digital Government confirmed Yuma County ranked in the top 10 for the category for the fifth year in a row. The county announced the award Wednesday in a news release. The center focuses national attention on the best examples of how information and communication technologies (ICT) are used to support and provide public service through the annual survey, according to the release. It found that America's counties are continuing to meet the challenge of providing effective and affordable government as evidenced by their accomplishments and future plans for public safety, social and health services, natural resource management, economic development and administrative efficiencies. “The survey data we collected shows that counties of all sizes are rising to meet the current economic challenge,” digital communities director Todd Sander said in the release. “They are finding impressive new ways to use ICT to deliver affordable public service at the very time many people expect and need more from their government.” With recent implementations such as YumaCountyMobile and using the social networking site Twitter to help get information out, it's easier than ever for Yuma County residents to access important government information. According to the release, judging for the competition this year included counties submitting numerous explanatory narratives on why technologies deployed actually improved life for government employees, citizens or both. In years past, according to the release, participating governments put together an inventory of their cutting-edge technologies. Digital counties survey winners with a population of 150,000-249,999 include: 1st: Hanover County, Va. 2nd: Cumberland County, Pa. 3rd: Doña Ana County, N.M. 4th: Boone County, Mo. 4th: Gaston County, N.C. 5th: Roanoke County, Va. 6th: Yuma County, Ariz. 7th: Sussex County, N.J. 8th: Mohave County, Ariz. 9th: Kenton County, Ky. 10th: Onslow County, N.C.
