Moving into the second year, 1st Bank Yuma has partnered with EverFi, Inc., a  leading education technology company, to bring an interactive, web-based financial management program to the Yuma Union High Schools at no cost to the schools or taxpayers.  The sponsorship also provides the high schools with unlimited access to the financial literacy curriculum.

According to Terry W. Frydenlund, President/CEO of 1st Bank Yuma, “Helping our community is one of our primary missions at 1st Bank Yuma.  With the experience of the recent financial crisis in our country, it became apparent to us that there was a need for more education regarding financial services and how to handle and protect one’s personal finances.  After seeing the EverFi financial literacy program, we were convinced it would provide that much needed education.  Our partner relationship with EverFi, the School District, and the Bank is proving to be very successful, and helps us fulfill our desire to give back to the community.  What better way is there to accomplish that, than by helping to educate our youth for a better tomorrow?”

Powered by EverFi technology, the web-based learning high school platform uses the latest in new media technologies – video, animations, 3-D gaming, avatars, and social networking – to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation.  High school students become certified in over 600 topics in financial education, allowing them to become more informed, responsible citizens.

The financial literacy program is a 10-unit course that offers 6-8 hours of programming aimed at teaching, assessing and certifying students in a variety of financial topics including credit scores, insurance, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, taxes, stocks, savings, 401k’s and other critical concepts that map to national financial literacy standards.  The learning platform tracks knowledge gained as well as students’ attitudes and behaviors on these important issues.  Students who successfully complete the course receive certification in Financial Literacy, a valuable mark of distinction on college applications and resumes.
